Nationaler Wettbewerb

Head/Wind Österreich Wettbewerb

  • , Filmcasino 64 min

Four films from four countries kick off the National Competition: documentary meets visual music meets fictional film (minoritarian co-production). As we move between the Ruhr region and Burgenland, between machines and landscapes, within the first two works, people merely play a role. In the second part of the program, however, young leading actors deliver convincing performances. They are the ones challenged by the environment taking control of their destiny. The wind in our faces we are left with goose bumps. (av)

Snow-covered mountains. An explosion. Men in work clothes watching a blast from safe distances. This film about the steel production barely includes people—and the ones that are shown are merely observers of colossal machines that assume the hard part of the manufacturing process. Stunning shots of eerily empty halls in a mist-shrouded world of business. (gh)

A trip across the country. Asphalt. Road noise turns into thrumming, hissing, booming, and blends with the rapidly passing scenery. A krautrock-based rhythm sets in. Spherical electronics. Until night falls. In this experimental road movie, that turns images into sounds and sounds into images. Visual music by Billy Roisz and Dieter Kovacˇicˇ in collaboration with Trio Radian. (gh)

But Kai’s unpredictable father does not want to celebrate, so the young man has to take matters into his own hands. After all, a calf needs to be slaughtered.
